Sumps pumps are after all machines and they encounter some or the other technical problems. In order to avoid such issues and saving your basement from flooding, you should be aware of varied issues that these pumps had to face. Let us discuss these issues in detail –
- Sump pumps are pretty much same as any of your domestic electric appliance. If there is no power, it is purely worthless. As a precautionary step, go for high-quality back up sump pump.
- You will find a wide variety of sump float switches, tethered and vertical floats are two of the commonly found types. Experts prefer using vertical floats as tethered ones get stuck on side walls of the sump pit, which in the worst cases cause flood in your basement. There are sump pumps which come with mechanical pressure switches and they fail easily.
- Most of the people have a false illusion that every pump is made equally, but in actuality they are not. At least you should have a sump pump with 1/3 horsepower which can easily pump 35 gallons of water in a minute. If it is below that then it will not be able to sustain the water flow.
- Old age is one of the common problems that is faced by every pump. Make sure that you don't wait for the pump to break in order to fix it. Ideally, a sump should be replaced after 5-7 years.
