Of all the novel sitcom ideas that writers have dreamt up from Hollywood, none of them has used a subject as potentially entertaining as a relationship between a famous actress and a musician. There have been quite a number of such alliances over the past five decades, several of which would serve as excellent examples for a literally rocking sitcom.
Here are ten couples whose relationships could be used as a basis for a TV series about an established actress who becomes romantically involved with an established musician or recording artist.
Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard
The star of TV shows like "New Girl" and movies such as Elf is an accomplished singer in her own right, but not nearly as musically gifted as Death Cab For Cutie leader Ben Gibbard. The two married in 2009, but two years later they divorced.
Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen
The cute Barbra Cooper, the younger sister on "One Day at a Time," introduced the world to Bertinelli. She married the rock guitarist in 1981, a union that lasted 25 years.
Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel
Faye Dunaway and Peter Wolf
The award-winning star, most well-known for her portrayal of Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest, married rock star Peter Wolf in 1974. He is the lead singer and front man of the J. Girls Band, whose hits include "Must of Got Lost" and "Centerfold."
Catherine Bach and Ringo Starr
The Bond Girl from The Spy Who Loved Me married The Beatles drummer in 1981, when they met on the set of a film called Caveman. Unlike most actress-musician alliances, theirs has lasted.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin
The Oscar-winning star of Shakespeare in Love was once engaged to Brad Pitt, but a few years later married the lead singer of Coldplay. After ten years together, they recently decided to separate.
Kate Moss and Jamie Hince
The model has acted mostly in music videos, so her interest in music was apparent even before she married the guitarist of the Kills.
Daryl Hannah and Jackson Browne
The star of Splash and the famous pop-rock singer never married, but they were in a serious relationship for nine years in the 80s and 90s.
Alicia Witt and Ben Folds
The "Cybill" star was in a long relationship with the alternative rocker until last year.
Victoria Principal and Andy Gibb
Pamela Ewing, the lovely sister-in-law of J.R. on Dallas, was her biggest role. She and the youngest brother of the Bee Gees were in a relationship for two years after meeting on "The John Davidson Show" in 1981.
